Asia Argento, born in Rome into a family that also includes actors and directors also pursued these careers. The Church, directed by Michele Soavi, was her debut role. In the year following the film, she portrayed Nanni Moritti's child on screen in Red Wood Pigeon. Her professional career took off after she landed the role of Nanni's daughter in Close Friends. Cannes International Film Festival was a great success for the film. Her father was in the film for the very the first time Trauma, a renowned Italian director of horror, Dario Argento. Her mother, Daria Nicoleli, is the most adored actress of Argento, as she portrayed an orexic seeking to locate her parents' killer. Asia's intense way of acting was effectively utilized in the film Condannato a nozze. The role she played as Arianna in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di vista, a physically-disabled girl, was an arduous and intricate role, which brought her the David di Donatello award for best actress. Her film debut was a performance as Queen Margot, directed by Patrice Cereau. She also directed an episode for the film De Generazione. 1996 saw her direct a documentary with her dad. 1998 was the year she directed AbelAsia on the legendary filmmaker Abel Ferrara. This film received a prize from the Rome Film Festival. In 1999 Asia made her feature-directing debut by directing Scarlet Diva with Scarlet Diva, in which she played the lead actress and author of the screenplay. In May 2000, the movie became available to the public worldwide. This film was awarded by the Williamsburg Festival in Brooklyn, New York.
